hThe town of Harwood was founded in 1844, when Ezekiel Harwood purchased over 300 acres from Spanish settlers who told him the entire area was full of gold. Although no gold was actually discovered, Harwood found the area “charming and conveniently far from major waterways” and began to raise a family.

The town was incorporated in 1859, and its remote location buffered it from many effects of the Civil War, as well as pretty much anything up until World War II, when the town was briefly put on the map as hometown of Bertram Jesper, one of the principal actors in the Manhattan Project.

Since the horrific events of last year, Harwood has experienced a dramatic decrease in growth. But it still boasts a quaint small town atmosphere. Clean-up on the eastern side of town near Harwood Cemetery is almost complete, and the State of Texas has certified that not a single carnivorous corpse has been spotted in over nine months.

If you’re considering relocating your business to a town with friendly folks, no state income tax, and a distinct lack of zombies, the town of Harwood invites you to explore the town website.
