What Is A Documentary Play?

lnDocumentary theatre has existed as a genre since 492 BC, when the Greek playwright Phrynicus produced his play The Capture of Miletus about the Persian War.

In its modern form, documentary theatre was pioneered by Bertolt Brecht and Erwin Piscator — focusing on issues of social conflict, class tensions and power structures.

Zombie Town stems from the same grand tradition as the Epic Theatre movement, the Federal Theatre Project’s Living Newspapers, and the Verbatim Theater of Anna Deveare Smith.

Except it’s about zombies.
